Cape Reinga in New Zealand, mostly known for the meeting of the two seas, the Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean, has a deep connection in the Maori mythology. The saga says that the spirits of the dead travel to Cape Reinga to jump off for the afterlife. Well, I guess, that would be a full and very interesting story by itself.
Cape Reinga is also well known for its lighthouse, a big tourist attraction but what I would recommend to you is to walk away from it and look for one of those great spots from which you get a better view of this incredible coastline. Stay well after sunset, often there is just enough haze in the air to give the landscape and sky a beautiful "afterglow" with very soft light.
When I took this shot, out of season, we were lucky enough to have this place all for ourselves (my wife and myself). It was incredible, the peace and silence, which only was broken by crashing waves, all of this it a very special and spiritual moment in our lives.
Enjoy the peace!
